College Ministry

I just thought I'd share how we are making good progress among college age people. Our Catalyst Bible Study (Monday nights) is always a fun time with a steady group of people coming. Those people often invite people to come and some great friendships are created through these interactions.

Two of our college students/friends are going to be moving in to our house in November to live in the neighborhood incarnationally and work with us in the neighborhood. One of those people is now the secretary of the neighborhood association, and is on her way to a degree in urban studies. The other person is getting involved in the local music scene as well and with the GFAC and their plays.

There are two new people coming this Fall, one of which has a deep passion for urban ministry and longs to work in that field (in a big city) but is unable to because of school and work. We are currently working on getting her involved here with what the Citadel is doing in Flint. It may be in a smaller context, but the needs are still the same, and it is so much fun to be here in Flint now. The other person may also move into our house and work with us as we work in the neighborhood.

There are a few corps members attending each week. There are also some church-less people attending who we are trying to get involved more. It seems that a lot of people have to work on Sundays, so this raises the question of a second service for those who have schedule conflicts. I don't know the answer to this question. I just know we don't want to have another Cross ConneXions (for as beneficial as it was to those who atteneded, it left a bad taste in some soldier's mouths).

Bottom line, its great to see people excited for Flint and see that it can get better with some work. Its great that people are moving into the city and getting their hands dirty with us. We can only do so much, and the same volunteers can only do so much. Its good to get a nice pool of people committied to the restoration, renewal, and rebuilding.

We are hoping to begin a secondary study in the Riverfront housing (the old Hyatt) soon. We have been overwhelmingly busy, but have not forgotten this goal.
