last week..

Last week was not as busy of a work week as the previous, but a good week nonetheless.

A quick update on the "I69 City Entrance Gateway" project... On Thursday, we had a meeting with "Keeping Genesee County Beautiful", Art from International. Academy, and a guy from Catholic Charities/Mr. Rogers summer youth program. We're adopting three of the six blocks (the other three are adopted by the neighborhood, and Red Cross & Resource Genesee. This involves weeding, dead heading, sweeping off the sidewalks, litter pick up, and a few other things. All of this takes place at the street level (we're not allowed to be on the slope going down to I69) at the following blocks: 8th Street between Saginaw and Church, 9th between Saginaw and Church, and 9th between Church and Grand Traverse.

Another cool thing that came out of that meeting besides some good networking was the proposal that the little strip of land at Grand Traverse and Kearsley become an official "Cultivating Our Community" project next year. This will help tremendously with the work load, and we will be able to be sponsors of the garden.

Following the meeting, we headed out with Cheryl, Captain, Jon and the Mortons to the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Memorial Park Playground. It was cool to see the kids playing, and to see fellow workers again and touch base with them.
