Picnics in the park..

It was an early day for Rachel and I today. We had a meeting at Memorial Park with the IMA Parks Coordinator about the use of the park for a summer food program for youth in the Grand Traverse neighborhood. The meeting could not have gone better than it did,a nd what an awesome day to be outside. I love nature, but I also really love urban areas. So, to me there is nothing better than green areas in the midst of the city.

This project is a collaboration with The I.M.A., The G.T.D.N.A., The Food Bank, and The Salvation Army Flint Citadel. Our hope is that we can provide provide nutritional meals to youth who rely on the schools food program during the rest of the year. Everyone involved is very excited. Not only will children's nutritional needs be taken care of, but this park in the heart of the neighborhood is beginning to see more use. There are opportunities to build community and be examples of Christ to these kids and the rest of their family.

The plan is to co-organize a clean up time to get the building and bathrooms clean and ready for regular use sometime soon in preparation for the launch of "picnics in the park" on June 15th. interested in helping? call 810.232.2199

We are blessed to be in a international movement of Christians that is trusted enough to be handed keys and alarm codes, allowed to distribute food, play games with kids, and share about Jesus. We may do some open air meetings as well as some other events. You could almost say that Memorial Park is an outpost of Flint Citadel now.

God has plans. We have hope. The neighborhood has a future.
